Orlando is well known as one of the top tourist destinations in the world. The “City Beautiful”, however, was also a popular resort area in the 1920’s thanks to warm weather, natural lakes, and gorgeous canopied roadways.
It was during this time that the first real land boom took hold, and housing sprung up in what is now the downtown area. Even today, many of the “bungalow” type homes remain. Of course, Orlando’s history goes even further back. But the reasons for settlement on what was once called Fort Gatlin, and much later by US Army Personnel of the then Orlando Army Air Base, are still the same. And, there are even more amazing features to behold today.
It just takes a walk through College Park or around Lake Eola to find some of the most beautiful homes ever created. History abounds with wrap around porches and distinctive blue water views. Orlando Country Club (circa 1912) homes were built with “Old Florida” spirit, and abound with stunning views of Spring Lake and meticulous greens.
Further south, Lake Nona offers estates with private docking and completely updated appeal. Infamous Bay Hill Country Club boasts premier estates overlooking meticulous greens and decades-old fastidious landscaping. And, the Dr. Phillips area, which includes gated communities with lake views and proximity to watch Disney fireworks every night.
And, these are just a sampling of the highlights Orlando has to offer. Whether it’s a condo overlooking Lake Eola, or honest-to-goodness country club living, the “City Beautiful” has earned its name, both then and now.
