Settlements in the Lake Mary area began in the 1800’s, with its main source of income coming from Citrus farming. Located north of Orlando just off I-4, the real growth of this very upscale area began in earnest in the 1970’s after Disney World was opened.
As the need for suburban housing grew, so grew Seminole County and the gorgeous Lake Mary enclave. Chosen as one of the best places to live in Seminole County, in Florida, and in the US by several sources, it should not be surprising its tremendous growth has been meticulously planned for families.
Centered around a few of the area’s largest Lakes, Lake Jessup and Crystal Lake, the city of Lake Mary is called the “City of Lakes”. So it is not surprising that Lake Mary has some of the most beautiful parks and recreation areas in Central Florida. The Cross Seminole Trail is 22.8 miles of beautiful cypress and oak trees and ambles through Winter Springs and Lake Mary. Beautiful bridges and water views dot the trail, and is ideal for walking, biking, and skating.
There’s also Trailhead Park and Spring Hammock Preserve, both incredible monuments to the natural beauty of the area. And, because of Lake Mary’s location north of Orlando and next to I-4, an adventure to New Smyrna Beach (a local favorite) is an easy trip for the day or afternoon.
The Lake Mary area is zoned for Seminole County Public Schools, renowned as one of the best performing group in the state. There are also some stellar private schools, such as Lake Mary Preparatory. Life in this city is centered around home, and the available real estate is upscale and lush. Newer homes can feature large wooded lots for privacy, beautifully designed outdoor kitchens, large and cozy eat-in kitchens, and views ranging from preserve land to large, natural lakes. Whether Lake Mary is going to be home or an investment, this area has proven time and again to be one of the best places to live in Florida.
